Either before or after your Croatian Yacht Charter, you might extend your stay in Croatia with a few nights in a hotel on one of the islands. Options range from small boutique heritage hotels, immersed in history, to modern waterside resorts, with extensive spa facilities.
Here we have selected five of our favorite special hotels on the Croatian Islands.
This discrete boutique hideaway occupies a cluster of centuries-old buildings in a narrow stone alley in medieval Korčula Town. The five luxurious residences are themed around the voyages of Marco Polo, who was born on Korčula. Sleeping 2-6, each is totally unique, with whimsical décor and a kitchenette. In addition, the LD Spa does Thai massage, while the LD Restaurant, with tables shaded by towering pines overlooking the sea, serves Creative Mediterranean fare. In 2020 the restaurant gained a Michelin star, making this a truly special hotel on the Croatian Islands.
Renovated in 2019, the Palace Elizabeth is now Hvar Town’s plushest retreat and one of our top special hotels on the Croatian Islands. Empress Elisabeth of Austria commissioned the construction of the building in 1898, hence the hotel’s name.
The decor of the 45 rooms is appropriately imperial, with king-size beds, velvet-upholstered armchairs, hand-painted murals, and marble bathrooms. Guests enjoy a cooked-to-order breakfast on the restaurant terrace, looking down onto Hvar’s fishing harbor, and a spa with an indoor pool and sun terrace.
In Maslinica on Šolta, this historic building dates from 1703. There’s a tranquil central courtyard with a pool, and a 50-berth marina out front. Period antiques grace the seven spacious suites – the most impressive is the Royal Suite in the tower, but beware you’ll have to climb 100 steps to reach it. Guests dine on Mediterranean fare (think fresh Adriatic seafood and locally-produced olive oil) on a terrace overlooking the harbor. Other facilities include a vaulted stone wine cellar and a wellness. In short, a very special hotel on the Croatian Islands.
Near Hvar’s chief port, Stari Grad, Maslina opened in 2020, making it one of the newest special hotels on the Croatian Islands. Backed by fragrant pine woods, it looks onto a small pebble beach with sun-beds, and carries the motto “mindful luxury”. The 50 rooms all have sea-views and slick contemporary design, with wood and stone details, and earthy-colored natural fabrics. In addition, there are three superb villas (sleeping up to ten) each with a private pool. Other treats include a restaurant serving Creative Mediterranean cuisine, a spa, and a Kids Club.
In the Kvarner Gulf, on Lošinj, the Vitality Hotel Punta has a superb spa with an indoor seawater pool, a vast gym, an infinity pool, and tennis courts. This big modern resort’s location and facilities certainly make it a special hotel on the Croatian Islands. Above all, guests love the vitality programs, including yoga and Nordic hiking, and the waterside stone terrace lined with sun-beds. The 289 rooms and suites are decorated in purple and grey, with interconnecting rooms ideal for families. Generous buffet meals are taken on the restaurant terrace, enjoying dreamy sea views.
