Saint Barthelemy is a French-speaking Caribbean island home to white-sand beaches and designer shops. This overseas collectivity of France is commonly called St. Barths. St Barths | Weather

St. Barths is generally temperate and dry, although the summer is warmer and rainier. The best months to visit the island are November through April, when the trade winds blow and the sun almost always shines.

Places to See

  • Explore historic Fort Karl. Karl Fort was one of the three forts surrounding Gustavia in Swedish times. The other forts were Forts Gustav and Octav. The fort overlooks Shell Beach and offers a beautiful view of Gustavia.
  • Eden Rock Hotel. Hotel Eden Rock is an iconic St Barths hotel that has welcomed some of Hollywood’s hottest stars as its guests. Enjoy a meal at the Sand Bar, a gourmet outdoor terrace restaurant.
  • Visit Anse des Flamands on the North part of St Barths. Here, you’ll find world-class hotels and vacation rentals.
  • Go to St-Jean, a quaint village perfect for escaping the crowds.
  • Visit Colombier Beach, a crescent-shaped bay of turquoise water fringed with powdery sand and emerald-colored hills.
  • Wall House Museum. Visit this museum to uncover the story of the island. Free entrance and open every day except Sunday.
  • Swedish Clock Tower in Gustavia. The Clock tower was once part of a church. The Clock Tower and the adjoining former Swedish Jail are quaint buildings on a hill. Constructed in 1799, it is the oldest colonial structure in Gustavia. It is a good example of the town’s Swedish-styled architecture and a glimpse into the past.
  • Jardins Historiques De Gustav Iii. A collection of colorful plants, shrubs, and cacti is on the way to the lighthouse.

Things to Do on St. Barthélemy

  • Rent an ATV or car and explore the island.
  • Beachcomb on Shell Beach. Be sure to wear shoes because the beach lives up to its name. Shells cover the sand.
  • Have a spa day at Le Barthelemy Hotel and Spa.
  • Take a submarine trip. A Yellow Submarine tour departs from Gustavia Harbour and will travel six feet beneath the surface.
  • Scuba dive. Shallow reefs and 22 dive sites surround St Barths. Be sure to explore the wreck of the Nonstop, a yacht that sunk in 1989 during Hurricane Hugo.
  • Kitesurf. The amazing wind conditions that make St. Barths a world-class sailing destination make it a perfect place for kitesurfing. For lessons, visit 7th Heaven Kite Surf School.
  • Attend the Gourmet Festival in November.
  • Have a picnic on the beach. Your yacht’s crew will set up everything for a picture-perfect meal.
  • Go shopping. In Gustavia, you can find famous brands such as Cartier, Bulgari, Prada, Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabana, Chopard, and many local designers. You’ll find everything from clothing to jewelry and souvenirs unique to the culture and tradition of Saint Barts.

Beach bars in St Barths are so fantastic; they deserve their section. Here are some of the best places to have a cocktail and enjoy the amazing St Barths sunshine.

Gustavia

  • Shellona. You’ll find Shellona on the iconic shores of Shell Beach. Relax in the shade of a private cabana and drink one of Shellona’s detox juices or a hand-crafted specialty cocktail.

St. Jean Beach

  • Nao Beach is a new beach bar offering unique cocktails influenced by Japanese and Med flavors. Try their Sakura Spritz, made with sake, prosecco, and a geisha flower cordial.
  • La Guerite Beach, another new beach bar next to GypSea Beach, offers Mediterranian-inspired fare. They serve handcrafted cocktails daily from 10:30 a.m. to sunset.
  • GypSea Beach Club is a relatively new Mediterranean bar in St. Jean. Enjoy handcrafted cocktails by the bar or in a private cabana, and listen to the tunes at the Rum Bar.
  • Nikki Beach is the ultimate party bar and a must-see for St. Barth visitors—amazing Sunday parties with live music, champagne, and a fun-filled atmosphere.
  • Pearl Beach is a great stop for the whole family. With gentle waves to play in and the spectacle of planes taking off and landing, it’s the perfect place to relax. The kid’s menu is as extensive as their cocktail menu.

Flamands Beach

  • La Cabane is on the longest stretch of beach in St. Barth. This upscale bar pampers you from the time you arrive with bespoke cocktails from the Tiki Bar and outstanding service.

Grand Cul de Sac

Colombier Bay: Pick up a mooring ball at Colombier Bay, located northwest of St. Barths. The secluded beach is at the bottom of a steep, rocky hill; sailors call it one of the best anchoring spots in the Caribbean.

Sailing Regattas | St Barths

Although St Barths is one of the smaller Antillean islands, its geography and a near-guaranteed 15 to 20 knots of wind make it a world-class sailing destination. For yachting enthusiasts, plan to visit St Barths during one of their regattas.

  • St Barths Bucket Regatta takes place in March. This three-day event showcases sailing measuring 100 feet long and over yachts in exciting races.
  • Les Voiles Richard Mille is a five-day event held in April. Eight of the most magnificent racing sailboats compete in this spectacular regatta.
