Islands to Visit on Greek Sailing Yacht WIND-OF-CHANGE
Greece is home to numerous islands, each with its unique charm and character. Let’s take a closer look at the different Greek Island Groups, each offering its own enchanting experience.
The Cyclades
The Cyclades are perhaps the most famous Greek island group located in the central Aegean Sea. These islands are famous for their iconic whitewashed buildings with blue-domed roofs, crystalline waters, and vibrant nightlife. Santorini, Mykonos, Naxos, and Paros are among the most popular destinations here, offering a mix of history, culture, and relaxation.
The Ionian Islands
You’ll find the lush and green Ionian Islands on the western side of Greece. Corfu, Zakynthos, Kefalonia, and Lefkada are some of the jewels in this group’s crown. These islands have picturesque landscapes, sandy beaches, and Venetian-influenced architecture. The Ionian Islands offer a more tranquil and family-friendly atmosphere compared to the bustling Cyclades.
The Dodecanese
Situated in the southeastern Aegean, the Dodecanese islands are a diverse group that blends Greek and Turkish influences. With its medieval Old Town, Rhodes stands out as a prominent destination. Other islands like Kos, Patmos, and Symi boast rich histories, stunning beaches, and a mix of cultural influences.
The Sporades
The Sporades, in the northern Aegean, offer a quieter and less commercialized island experience. Skiathos, Skopelos, and Alonissos are the main islands in this group, known for their lush landscapes, pine forests, and pristine beaches. These islands are perfect for nature lovers and those seeking a peaceful escape.
The Saronic Islands
Close to Athens, the Saronic Islands are easily accessible and provide a convenient day trip or weekend getaway option. Aegina, Poros, and Hydra are popular choices, each with its unique charm. Hydra, for example, is car-free, offering a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
