Powercat Charter Aquila 44 is popular in the British Virgin Islands for both crewed and bareboat yacht charters. The Aquila ’44 is no exception. Moreover, the space power cats provide onboard and the ease with which they can be captained are just some of the advantages. The Aquila ’44 is a great choice for cruising the shallow waters of the BVIs, Bahamas, or along the coast of Florida.

I was able to jump onboard this Powercat at the Newport Boat Show where a steady stream of people was climbing on and off her. “It’s been very popular at the show,” said Raúl Bermudez, the vice president of the charter division of Marine Max, the marine company that represents the Aquila designs.

Space and Versatility on a Powercat Charter Aquila 44

Despite being just over 44 feet in length, the Aquila ’44 offers a large amount of room can sleep seven people, and hold a maximum of 21 passengers for day trips. Each stateroom has its bathroom and shower.

Bermudez says that the Powercat provides a smooth and stable ride thanks to its wide beam. “This is a true powerboat in design,” he said.

Fuel-Efficient

“And it is fuel-efficient, burning around 3 gallons an hour when traveling at 7 or 8 knots,’ Bermudez said.

The flybridge offers unobstructed views of the horizon and is set up so that while the captain is driving, guests can relax around the table just behind the captain’s chair and take in the views. The BBQ is located on the flybridge as well.

From the flybridge, passengers have access to the bow of the boat and to the aft with separate staircases.

With just over a 21′ beam, the flybridge has incredible space forward, perfect for guests to relax on.

The aft is no exception, as there is plenty of space for everyone. There is another dining table on this level, and the galley located in the main salon opens up to a bar with a two-stool set-up in the cockpit, allowing the cook to socialize with everyone else.

The countertops are Corian®, so they make for an easy clean. The cooktop is electric. It’s small, but if you’re not planning on serving up four-course meals, then it should serve you just fine.

The main salon offers 360 views of the surroundings with large tinted and tempered windows. There is an indoor dining table and another captain’s station. Most of the interior is laminate wood paneling and the interior cushions are made out of leather.

The staterooms offer large windows near the water level, all equipped with their own shower and head. The main stateroom is, of course, slightly larger than the other two and is located at the bow of the boat. It has a large desk space perfect for getting some last-minute work done or getting ready for a night ashore with its pop-up vanity mirror and closet space located next to the desk.

“We did not cut any corners,” said Bermudez, and that includes the engines, which are top-of-the-line Volvo motors.

At night time, the boat lights up, literally. There is blue effect lighting throughout the boat, including inside the cup holders! All lighting is LED.

There is also an outdoor shower on the left side of the transom. The dinghy is easily loaded and unloaded from the aft.

The skeg protector allows for a captain to have peace of mind when traveling through shallow water or when docking afterward.
