Luxury catamaran “Dreaming On” has been spending time in Belize. Read on to discover what a Belize yacht charter experience is like!
Dreaming On arrived in Belize in late August and since our arrival, we have covered 350 miles exploring this wonderful new cruising area.
The islands here are like little gems floating on every shade of blue and turquoise water imaginable.
The islands vary from small mangrove islands with an isolated fishing camp to idyllic white sand and palm trees. Some are private. Some have small resorts. These resorts vary from very basic local to high-end exclusive. Although there is nothing like the Soggy Dollar, Foxy’s, or the Willie T as yet, there are still many opportunities for guests to take a trip ashore to sample a local happy hour or cuisine.
The snorkeling and diving are absolutely superb, with reefs everywhere you look. There are also opportunities for organized flats fishing or offshore fishing trips.
We have established relationships with 2 very professional dive organizations to offer our guests the best possible rendezvous diving experience.
Attractions and Annual Events
During February, March, and April, there is the added attraction of the annual whale shark visit. At that time of year, tens of thousands of grouper and snapper congregate to spawn around the full moon cycle. As the area where this activity occurs is protected, guests have the opportunity to be taken into the area by the authorized dive operators for the possibility of seeing and snorkeling with the whale sharks.
As Belize also has so much to offer on land, we recommend guests consider a day trip or half-day trip ashore to take in a trip to Monkey River reserve, with a visit to a waterfall and Mayan ruins and possibly an exciting zipline experience through the canopy.
Placencia
Our base will be The Placencia Resort on the coastline of the Placencia peninsula and very close to Placencia’s existing airport. At present local flights operate regularly from Belize City to this airport. A new Placencia International Airport is almost complete and we expect flights to operate directly from mainland US into the new airport sometime in 2016.
The Placencia Resort marina is a work in progress but still a great place from which to operate. The resort itself offers many accommodation options for overnights before or after a charter. It is also an excellent base for land trips should guests wish to stay longer in the area.
Placencia village, a few miles south is an eclectic mix of small restaurants, bars, boutiques, most of which are reachable along Placencia’s main street, called “The Placencia Side Walk.” This is actually a 4’ wide concrete path that winds its way along the beach and is in the Guinness Book of Records as the longest main road in the world. It is said that if you want to find anyone in Placencia, buy a cold beer, sit in the shade beside the main street, and sooner or later, the person you want to find will wander by.
The area is in an economic upturn at present with a great deal of external investment in property development and escalating property prices.
